About Your MBSR Instructor

Michele Matton has been practicing mindfulness meditation for over 15 years. Since 2000 she has taken 1-2 week long retreats every year to deepen her practice. In June of 2009 she took a professional training class with John Kabat-Zinn, the creator of MBSR, and his colleague Saki Santorelli.

Michele has been a schoolteacher now for over 25 years. During that time she has won the Hoosier Educator Award and the Dorothy Johnson Award for Excellence in Education of Young Children. Michele knows that people have different learning styles and should be exposed to a variety of techniques, so that they may use the ones that work best for them. It is also important to understand the needs of each individual and adapt the lesson to address those needs.

Michele has worked with adults for over two decades as a facilitator of a variety of workshops. (These include meditation, conflict resolution, mediation, storytelling, literacy, and children’s theater). She has worked as a facilitator for the NSRF, (National School Reform Faculty). All of these experiences have contributed to Michele’s ability to provide a safe, supportive and deeply engaging learning environment for her MBSR classes.

When Michele isn’t teaching, facilitating or meditating, she loves to spend her time reading, traveling, scuba diving and hanging out with her family and friends.
